Upper Goulburn Working Dog Group

The UGWDG was formed in 2017 by a group of like minded people from the North East of Victoria. Primarily centred in the Alexandra, Mansfield, Yea, Bendigo & Seymour area, with a interest in the development and showcasing of true working dogs.

The skill of stockmen & women is legendary across Australia, ever since sheep & cattle were introduced to the new colony approximately 250 years ago.

Challenges between them in the form of dog trials have been part of our countries pastoral history since the late 1800’s.

Technology has had a huge impact on agriculture in recent times, but the age old skill of handling livestock with dogs has always been admired, even more so in today’s highly developed livestock industry.

What We Do

The UGWDG host a number of events showcasing the art of working dogs. With events being held across the year at Mansfield, Alexandra, Yea, Seymour as well as the Bendigo Sheep & Wool show.

Who We Are

The Upper Goulburn Working Dog Group was led for many years by founding President Ian Bates and Secretary/Treasurer Rod Cavill. There is a small team that comprises the remainder of the committee ( Aoidh, Tim & Campbell).

At a recent meeting, Ian handed the President reins over to first time President Naomi White, with Rod staying on as the Secretary/Treasurer. Ian remains  as part of the management team.
